California is home to five commuter rail systems that carried an average of 92,500 riders each weekday in the third quarter of 2010.

Systems listed in order of average weekday ridership*

Caltrain (41,000) – Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board

Metrolink (38,600) – Southern California Regional Railroad Authority

Capitol Corridor (5,300) – Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority

Coaster (5,100) – North County Transit District

Altamont Commuter Express (2,500)** – San Joaquin Regional Rail Commission
